Sponsor a Russian Child

While OSI is not presently need of sponsors for our existing Russia programs, we strongly encourage interested invidivuals to visit our partners at Ascent Russian Orphan Aid Foundation.  AROA is an outstanding charity supporting orphans in Russia, Ukraine, and Moldovo, from infants to young adults, and their sponsorship model is nearly identical to that of OSI.  Visit www.iOrphan.org for more information.
The home of our first program site, Russia is the birthplace of the OSI.  Based in the Kemerovo region of Siberia, OSI-Russia's initial focus was on children living in state-run orphanages.  Child sponsorship was a  means to introduce a sense of individuality to children living in these institutional environments, while it also provided for their previously un-met material needs.  We also completed numerous substantial projects to improve the facilities and environments of the orphanages.  As our initial group of children grew, our latter years in Russia focused on assisting their transition into young-adulthood, including establishing our own supervised transitional home.

Over the course of a decade, OSI-Novokuznetsk provided long-term care for 60 children, primarily from Children's Home #1 in Novokuznetsk city, and the children's shelter in nearby Abashevo Village.  In addition, OSI completed many large-scale projects at both homes, including new bedrooms with furnishings, equipped computer/recreation rooms, equipped book/video library, sewing room & machines, and musical halls and equipment.  Finally, OSI helped establish a supervised transitional home in Novokuznetsk where our eldest children could live semi-independently while establishing themselves in secure professions and futures.

In Kemerovo city, our efforts have focused primarily on about 50 children from Children's Home #2.  In the early years of our Kemerovo program, our focus was on caring for the children's individual needs within the orphanage, and completing numerous large-scale projects to improve the home environment and facilities.  As our Kemerovo children have grown, our effort has evolved to helping them gain the skills and confidence to be able to live independently.  From a university graduate to vocational training and professions of their choosing, we are very pleased to see most of these young adults secure and independent at last.

Program Site Sponsor

Peter Reinhardt
Peter Reinhardt is the longest-standing sponsor of OSI's administrative effort.  Mr. Reinhardt is an American living in Moscow where he is a partner in an international accounting firm.  Besides his financial sponsorship, Mr. Reinhardt's commitment to our effort has provided opportunities and support for children far exceeding our program wishes.  Mr. Reinhardt, we can never thank you enough!

OSI Program Liaison

Olga Kharitonova
From the beginning, Olga has worked tirelessly and selflessly for our Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk children.  Her English, computer, and coordination skills have been invaluable, but most of all her heart for these children and her long-term consistency has made her as dear as family, -more than we could ever have hoped to provide for them.
