About Program Site Sponsorship
One hundred percent of child sponsor funds are utilized to serve the needs of the child. We believe the ability of OSI sponsors to focus their funds
and attention solely on their child provides a level of intimacy in the relationship that would not otherwise be attainable. This provides a great
challenge administratively, and we are dependent on Program Site Sponsors to make it work.
The Costs
- Ideally, we strive to have one full-time, paid OSI Liaison at each site to administer the site program. It's a labor-intensive job, as the site
liaison is responsible for utilizing child-sponsor funds to administer to the needs of every child, translating and maintaining all correspondence between
sponsors and children, and serving as the sponsor's primary contact in regards to the program and their child. In the economies where we operate, we
are able to hire qualified site liaisons at locally competitive salaries, at minimal cost
(US$100-$300/month). In addition to the site liaison salary, we must
provide dependable computer equipment for the liaison, Internet/email access for child/sponsor communications,
digital camera, office supplies, cover all transportation costs, banking
costs, and a few peripherals. Inclusive of all of the above, the total cost for which we can feasibly administer our program at a single site
is US$2500-$4500 per year, depending on the size and location of the site and other factors.
The Math
- Orphan Sponsorship International exists as multiple, individual program "sites" in Russia, Bulgaria, and Sri Lanka, each site comprised of on
average 45 children. With each child sponsorship providing $25/month, the total amount of funding spent directly on children in a single year is
$13,500.
A Program Site Sponsor, under the above funding guidelines, provides $2500-$4500 per year, enabling the complete operation of our program at a site, serving about
45 children, and enabling the further expenditure of approximately $13,500 of child sponsor monies on the site children. In short, an investment of
$2500-$4500 per year results in the direct financial benefit to the children at the site of $13,500.
In addition to sponsorship funds, at virtually every site we are able to acquire additional donor funds for projects at the site. All of this does not include
what we believe are the greater benefits of the relationship between sponsor and child and their ability to communicate with each other, and the sense of
individuality that the child gains from the relationship. And finally, site sponsorship provides excellent employment to a deserving individual in a
developing country, and the substantial OSI funds spent onsite ultimately augment the struggling local economies.

The Challenge - While we have little difficulty
finding willing sponsors for the children, the cost of administering each
site program is the greatest inhibitor of further OSI expansion.
With a regular flow of incoming sponsors, we easily secure child-sponsor funds ready to be utilized for the sake of the kids,
but without site sponsors we have not the means to make it all happen.
As with our child sponsors, we do not wish for site sponsors to feel their involvement is only financial. While it is not obligatory, we encourage
site sponsors to feel real ownership in their site, and even to visit and to be as involved in their site program as they wish to be; for it is solely through
their contribution that the site is able to exist and operate.
In cases of businesses, organizations, or otherwise, we are happy to consider how we can compensate you through providing materials that enable you to share
with others what your contribution means to the site and its children. We are of course interested in other ideas program sponsors themselves might
have in how we can recognize contributions. We see this not so much as an obligation, but as a way for you to share our pride in what OSI is able to do
for the needs of some of the world's orphans. |
